As a musician it’s hard to take a step back from the things we create and analyze them because MOST of the time they are so personal that we just can’t disconnect. In this video I consult with another artist to help him begin to identify his brand components and develop his core message.
I use a very simple tactic to determine whether or not you are being selfish with the things you are creating. Is there a point to what you make? Is there a message? More, do you know the “Job” your music has? Identifying this will help you to define the people that need the Job your music is doing.
Does your music make people dance? What about laughter, tears, anger? Each of these emotions is the backbone to the core message you’re sharing in your music. What is your story and what did you learn along the way? How are you capturing that and packaging it for other people? How does that package define those people?
If you don’t have a clear answer to these really important questions then your brand impact is going to be so low that you may end up becoming invisible! If you want to break through the noise and stand out with your music or your company brand you need to understand your people on their terms.
